Early Childhood Construction Update & Soft Start Plan
If you’ve ever gone through remodeling or construction, you know how supply delays and shifting timelines can cause frustration. Like many of you, we’re facing some unexpected delays with the construction of our new Early Childhood building (formerly the ECC). While these changes are out of our control, we are committed to thoughtful planning so that our students, families, and staff are well supported during the transition.
Kindergarten will begin Monday, August 25, in temporary classrooms at the elementary school. We’re calling this a “Soft Start to School”—a two-week experience focused on building classroom community, learning early school routines, and engaging in hands-on exploration and play. We’ll be using one of our existing playgrounds, with a temporary fence installed for safety. To help students prepare for the move to their new classrooms, families can expect visual supports and social stories during this time. We encourage all preschool and kindergarten families to attend an informational meeting with staff and administration on Tuesday, August 19, at 5:30 PM to learn more and have an opportunity to ask questions.
From September 8–12, there will be no school for kindergarten students. This transition time—called “Ready, Set, Move!”—will allow staff to set up and prepare the new classrooms. On Thursday, September 11, from 5:00–6:00 PM, we will host the Kindergarten Open House so families can tour the new space, meet staff, and help children get ready. Please enter through the new main entrance. Kindergarten classes will resume in the new building on Monday, September 15.
Preschool will begin on Monday, September 15, due to ongoing playground installation and construction in Area B. We’re calling this Preschool Premiere Week, which will begin with a Preschool Open House on Thursday, September 11, from 5:00–6:00 PM. Families can visit classrooms, meet staff, and see the temporary setup. Please enter through the new main entrance.
We know this transition may bring challenges, and we’re grateful for your patience, flexibility, and support. Our priority is to provide a safe, welcoming environment for your children while we complete these exciting improvements. If you have questions, please reach out to Mrs. Anderson or me directly.
Thank you for your partnership,
