Notice Regarding Deer Incident Near School Grounds

Posted Date: 10/17/25 (8:43 AM)

Dear Parents and Community Members,

Earlier today, a small buck became tangled in the fence line near our school grounds. Upon discovering the situation, we immediately contacted local law enforcement and the Iowa Department of Natural Resources (DNR) for assistance.

Unfortunately, due to the severity of the animal’s condition, officials determined that the most humane course of action was to put the deer down. This was carried out as discreetly and safely as possible. Our staff quickly organized students and adjusted movement around the area to minimize any exposure or disruption.

We appreciate your understanding and support as we worked with authorities to handle this situation with care, compassion, and safety in mind for everyone involved.

Sincerely,
Deron Stender
Superintendent
Creston Community School District
