Panther Pitch

Dear Panther Partners:

Our communities, your schools. Your schools serve and provide critical support and education to more than 1,300 students. Your schools employ more than 300 dedicated and caring staff members who actively engage with our children. As residents of the Creston Community School District, you are directly invested in our schools in a variety of ways. You may have a child, grandchild, family member, neighbor, or know someone who attends our schools. Your schools provide quality education to our children so they can achieve their dreams and experience success. Your schools provide a variety of entertainment opportunities from our children through plays, music, and activities that generate pride in our schools and communities. The strength of our schools is the community and the strength of our communities is our schools.

On Wednesday, January 12, community members served a petition with 418 signatures on the school board seeking a vote on a general obligation bond to support renovated and new learning spaces, performing arts improvements, and a new competitive gymnasium for activities.

The school board met on Friday, January 14 to accept the petition and approve the 388 certified signatures and called for a vote on Tuesday, March 1, 2022 for a $24.9 million dollar general obligation bond to support renovations and new construction. The proposed plan is a result of two community led advisory committees who spent the past two years studying education and facility needs resulting in the proposed plan. Your schools served our children well and the proposed plan renovates existing spaces and creates new spaces while creating efficiencies and providing many learning opportunities. The proposed plan is fiscally structured to maintain the current school tax levy for Creston residents. Prescott residents may see an increase of $2.40 (from $14.15) in their school tax levy as a result of Prescott being fully incorporated into the Creston Community District and included in any new debt.

The district will host two opportunities for the public to learn more about the projects and the impact on our schools, community, and residents. The public forums are scheduled for:

Wednesday, February 2 and Thursday, February 24

High School Auditorium 5:00 p.m.

For more information, you may also visit the district website to learn more by clicking on Our Students, Your Schools-Education and Facilities Planning or contact me at [email protected] or 641-782-7028. Thank you for supporting our schools and making them the pride of our communities!
